TB-500 is a synthetic peptide corresponding to the full 43-amino-acid sequence of Thymosin Beta-4 (Tβ4). The active region of Tβ4 is the actin-binding domain at amino acids 17-23 (LKKTETQ) (Tβ4), a 43-amino-acid naturally occurring peptide first isolated from the thymus gland. Thymosin Beta-4 is the principal G-actin sequestering peptide in mammalian cells, present in all cell types except red blood cells.Laboratory research has investigated TB-500's role in actin polymerization regulation, cell migration and motility, and extracellular matrix remodeling.
