About This Compound
5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small-molecule, membrane-permeable inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), the enzyme that methylates nicotinamide using S-adenosyl-methionine (SAM). It is a quinolinium compound, not a peptide, and is supplied as a lyophilized powder.
Laboratory research has investigated NNMT inhibition as a lever on cellular NAD+ and SAM pools: in-vitro studies in adipocyte and muscle cell models have examined 5-Amino-1MQ's effects on intracellular NAD+ levels, 1-methylnicotinamide output, lipogenic gene expression and adipocyte differentiation, and SIRT1 activity downstream of the NAD+ pool. It is a reference compound in metabolic and NNMT biology research.
